Review:
Paperboy (2012) *** (out of 4) Lee Daniels adaptation of Peter Dexter's novel see some trash swamp and mystery around them. Reporter Ward Jansen (Matthew McConaughey) returns to hometown to try and solve the mystery behind the sheriff, who was killed. Hillary Van Wetter (John Cusack), who is sentenced to death for the murder of a journalist thinks he is innocent and shoot his younger brother (Zac Efron) and the poor woman (Nicole Kidman) in things. Paperboy is quite unpleasant bunch of characters that you can not help but hate funny to see McConaughey really changed their appearance here, as in the previous Killer Joe. I think the best thing in the picture is a success and director Daniels brings an authentic feel to the image. The biggest problem is the script and the story, which I felt was not all that exciting. The entire mystery surrounding what happened to the sheriff, it appears that the back seat and really just seem to come and go at times. Im not really sure why he was thrown into the background so much, especially with the twists coming towards the end. The thread would have thought that they were the creators of the story itself prepared is important, but just never really stopped. It also seems that the director wants to shock the viewer with some pretty graphic violence and sexual situations makes all the stars some pretty wild things. It really does look as if the movie is just building on each of these scenes and correct to say that they're quite memorable. Performances entire cast are terrific McConaughey and Kidman do wonders with their characters swamp trash. I thought they were both extremely reliable and hats for them to go as far as they did. I was also impressed by Efron and thought it handled quite well-developed characters. Cusack is awfully weird guy played bad and I also got strong support from David Oyelowo, Scott Glenn, and Macy Gray. Cinematography is just as good as the music score and atmosphere. Paperboy as a good example of its stars, but we can not help but feel its a missed opportunity to have a strong story even better.
