Review:
John Hawks continues to impress chameleon choices unusual characters. This time he plays Mark O'Brien, a 36-year-old polio victim who spent his life in horizontal CPR. Based on a true story, O'Brien is a poet and a romantic who never had a sexual experience. After consulting his priest (William H. Macy perfectly embodies radical Berkeley father), he comes into contact with a therapist and hooks sexual surrogate, Helen Hunt. Their meetings are at the heart of this tender film, and take both viewers and Mark on a journey of discovery and self-awareness. Hawkes is simply amazing. He fills the character with humor, innocence, hope and a mind that can only be described as a force productivity Tour. Hunt least professionals in their roles, combining professionalism, playfulness, sensuality and compassion in a series of sessions that require full nudity. Both actor bold in their search for truth and realization of human and Oscar caliber performances, sensitive direction by writer / director Ben Lewin.
